Caregivers play a significant role in supporting a person appropriately at this stage. Caring for those whose cognitive functions are failing, caregivers play an even bigger role in the decision-making and finalizing details for the end of life. This type of therapy considers the issues of quality of life during these last stages and how a caregivers can be supportive during this process.
Caregiver Counseling is a Necessity
The responsibility of caring for a senior’s constant needs can cause a caregivers to feel drained in their role and stuck in their position. Frustration can quickly sink in and turn into anger, resentment and depression. It is estimates that nearly 20 percent of family caregivers suffer from some form of depression. It is also estimates that 7.1 percent of American adults experienced at least one major depressive episode.
